R.I.P. Jean Beliveau
Sports is like a religion and its heavenly players our Saints and messiahs. Very few players are worthy of this adulation, especially when not performing. Jean Beliveau was Muhammed Ali, Babe Ruth and Pele combined on the ice, and Gary Grant, Mandala and Gandhi off the ice.
Just like it will never be possible for there to be another Beatles or Dylan, there will never be another hockey player or true Canadian like Jean Beliveau.
An extraordinary man. I was so lucky to live in his moments and be inspired by him while he was still with us. Thank you Mr Beliveau.
A great video essay captures some of his great esscence.
