On Fathers Day

On Fathers day lets just celebrate
the old man
strange in adult life
but superman for the kid
and we never asked
for that kids

Some kids figure
out Dad is not a combo
of the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny
Santa Clause and Jesus Christ
others are left disappointed by the truth

My father was a really great man
the town named a school after him
even before he died to soon.
His greatness was all like Buddha
just humility and trying help
when help is hard to find
and uncertain
and not part of any teaching plan

I learned from him everything essential
about how to behave and be deferential
when the MAN came to town
but how in those moments
to plot how he would
never come around

I had the perfect Canadian Dad
he was a hockey superstar
and when I was older 
I got to play games left wing with
him even though I was pathetic
and he was Bobby Orr old school
on defence

The most important thing
I learned from him
was to be patient
try your best
but do not expect dividends
for years of study
for dog years into 
the future

Most of all my Dad loved
me just the way I was
which believe me 
is jigsaw puzzle
now fifty years incomplete

I remember him dying at the hospital
and out of the blue he said Steve
wheel me around outside for one last look
many peoples have faced a worse trail of tears
but I took that one
I never said two things
and I hope he can read them

Dad you gave me so much

Unfinished Business

A Vince Vaughan, Owen Wilson Movie without both of them. Vince plays it straight and Owen is played by Dave Franco. This movie about international road warriors on a quest to get the handshake was very funny. It cracked me up big time, often. Some very clever gags and ideas realised. sienna miller was kind of wasted by the camera looking hot but not projecting anything interesting.
It should be a breakthrough movie for Director Ken Scott.  I may be late to the parade because he already has a significant body of work. I mark comedy hard because its so hard to be funny ha has, and so many comedies are funny like a clown. 

I can not believe Rotten Tomatoes gave it 11%. This was a well crafted movie with a few flat spots and a business plot that admittedly took great liberty, however its was at the very least a solid B, and on my gut punishment better. Watch this you will laugh, and you can not say that about so much called comedy today.

Game of Thrones

Is there a more unlikely hit of the 21st century? And the hits go on and one,
but mostly to the books where the story has been adapted in straightforward ways. TV will likely deuterium the book outcome, thats a new adaptation.
I like this cur throat view. Nuance is lost upon even the most discriminating viewer.

Chicago on the brink of another Stanley Cup

I do not believe in luck. I believe in random chance but luck as most understand it is being in a place to accept an opportunity. Chicago has done that and more and must now be considered the template to win the cup. You have to tank, you have to get at least one player who can score all the time when the world is upside down and the rest of the team can not bring that keel rightside. In the case of Chicago they have two players like that, thats a fact. They have a brilliant one and two on D that make up for the rest who are good to ok. Goal is a weakness in a Carey Price universe but the Hawks have proven, you do not always have to build out from your goal to win. I am a Montreal fan but love to see teams that play offensive hockey and relegate the defence to another place do well. Thats the way Montreal won 24 cups and if Chicago keeps going their way, and we keep going the Devils way they will catch us before we win another.
