The Dutch are admireable

Did I mention they bike everywhere without helmets and they live a grand life with no resources, worse than that they are basically underwater. Challenge a human to get humanity.

The most ambitious move to be a smashing success ever made

Upstream Color is hallucinatory tale that brilliantly opines on how the worm turns. Observations defying explanations rivet the viewer with a masterful examination of  faith, work, love and eternal legacy. Shane Carruth the genius behind Primer, once again proves he is the odds on favorite to be the 21st century's Orson Wells. Except Carruth operates with total independence and delivers even what the harshest critics would have to admit is a movie that if it were a painting would be a perfect collage of Picasso's best abstracts merged with Salvador Dali's illuminating but confusing narrative.

"In a recent interview with Elvis Mitchell on The Treatment radio show and podcast, Carruth said that he doesn't like to make films that can be easily reduced to synopsis. Films should go to the places that the written word, and other mediums, can't go. Otherwise, what's the point? Not coincidentally, it's a sentiment that can also be applied to science fiction as a genre."

 Although the movie was made on a shoestring budget it looks and feels as big as any blockbuster. Its unbelievable the mind-blowing cinematography was created with a $600  Panasonic DSLR. Carruth served as director, writer, producer, lead actor, cinematographer, editor, composer, casting director, production designer and sound designer, his romantic partners Oscar worthy performance is portrayed by Amy Seimetz. A cinematic force of nature in her own right. Saying this movie challenges the audience is akin to suggesting the origin of the universe is puzzling. What is art, what is culture, what is the meaning of life, I do not know how to define these things, but I know them when I experience them, Upstream Color is such an experience.

Triumphant total critical acclaim for this movie, do not miss it.

Tens Stars out of Five.

I do not like to put spoilers in my movie reviews. My purpose is only to promote the good and in a rare case identify the unworthy. Here are some spoilers.

This movie is like a Beatles or Bob Dylan song, its a prism that forces you to reflect your own light. I have added what came in on my wavelength, but I suggest you see the movie before reading.

The worm is advertising.
The pigs are the big corporations.
Pig headed choices, total burn.
The sounds are the well researched focus group tested mind control advertising has.
Even when the protagonist realize this they are still in love with the system because it is their only sense of immortality, not being able to reproduce on their own. Yes we are in love with our selves and easily manipulated by forces so much more clever and organized than we are.

A real drug that works like the movie.

I will always Love the Montreal Canadiens

For a sports fan every season that ends without a championship is not universally lamented. Your team could be a Cinderella who at the last minute was ditched by the fella.  Or maybe you won last year or the year before and the taste of victory remains fresh. My team lost beaten like the proverbial rented mule.

I am a little sad, and a little angry. Sad that every break went against them, and angry that the judicial system deserted them.  Overall I am content. After twenty years of watching players playing above their ability or at their ability and really watching the franchise stuck in a rut, we have some traction.  Geoff Molson deserves all the credit.  He made the tough choices, picked the right people and then stood back to see what may.

Montreal Canadiens have a young strong core, this playoff was only a bump in the road, and within two years they will find the suspension that is capable of carrying the load a parade down the usual route requires.
